Time is running out for Mojang Accounts, and the reign of the Microsoft Account is near.
Near the end of 2020, Mojang Studios, the creators of Minecraft, announced its latest efforts to integrate into its parent company, Microsoft. This means removing the Mojang Account — used by players to access and play Minecraft: Java Edition and the Minecraft Launcher on PCs — and transitioning users to a more seamless and secure Microsoft Account. On Friday, the company revealed a deadline for the move.
After March 10, 2022, you will need a Microsoft Account to play Minecraft: Java Edition. Players currently have a limited amount of time to voluntarily migrate their older Mojang Account before they are required to sign in with their Microsoft Account to play Minecraft. This is the completion of the expansion announced in October 2020. Fortunately, the process of migrating your account isn’t difficult and comes with various benefits in doing so. Here’s what you need to know:
There are no fees or costs to migrate and only takes a few minutes to complete. An option to initiate the migration will appear in the Minecraft Launcher or the Minecraft website whenever you log in. Minecraft: Java Edition is still fully supported and unchanged, and all your save data, worlds, profile information, and even mods are completely intact and move seamlessly You’ll get added security through your Microsoft Account, including the option of full two-factor authentication (2FA) You’ll also get more privacy and online safety through your Microsoft Account, with more options and settings to customize A Microsoft account can be used to access a variety of services with a single sign in, including Minecraft: Java Edition, Minecraft: Bedrock Edition, and Minecraft Dungeons through the Microsoft Launcher After completing the migration, you will be given a free cloak as a reward for your in-game character. You can redeem this cloak at any time, even if you don’t move until the deadline has passed (at which point it will no longer be optional). If you don’t already have a Microsoft Account, we recommend creating one for free by March 10 to make the process easier.
In case you missed it, Minecraft Rug: Java Edition is now available through PC Game Pass, which means that one of the best PC games could be more easily accessible, along with other Minecraft games by Mojang and Launcher run the newly merged Minecraft. With the transition of old Mojang Accounts to Microsoft Accounts nearing completion, Mojang Studios is a little more integrated into Microsoft and the Xbox Game Studios family.
